Student Support

St. James focuses on the development of the whole child through providing students the safety and support they need to learn, grow and thrive. St. James has a number of supports in place to attend to each student’s health and well-being — academically, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

Wellness

Ensuring the safety and health of our students is our top priority at St. James. Our school nurse manages health records, responds to and treats student illnesses and minor injuries on campus, dispenses medication according to State of Louisiana Medical regulations and supports students with chronic conditions.

Our Nutrition Program includes meals and snacks provided by Chef Advantage, which provides ample portions of healthy and delicious food with daily choices and a salad bar.  Our school nurse, the cafeteria manager, and each child’s teacher will work together to handle any food allergies or other dietary needs. St. James strives for a minimized allergen environment for the sake of wellness for all in our community.

To support social-emotional growth and development for all our students, our certified School Counselor visits Early Learning and Lower Elementary classrooms weekly.  The counselor also provides individual and small group counseling as well as whole class lessons for Upper Elementary students. Serving as a liaison between the school and outside counselors and therapists, the counselor works directly with families whose children receive additional support services.

Academic Support

At St. James, we take a holistic approach to meeting all learners where they are and helping them reach their fullest potential. That’s why our classes include an academic enhancement teacher to offer personalized support to meet each student’s individual needs. This provides a level of academic support unmatched in Baton Rouge.

Our teachers strive to provide each student a holistic, individualized education in a diverse and nurturing community where each student belongs and has the support he or she needs to thrive.

Spiritual Support

Our spiritual education reinforces the God-given dignity and individuality of each child as expressed through the Anglican tradition. Spiritual support includes weekly religion classes for each grade, twice-weekly chapel services, and spiritual education from our school chaplain, Mother Lynn Hooks.
