An Innovative Approach to Education Grounded in Tradition

The St. James experience is grounded in a seven-decade-long legacy of academic excellence, but our educators are also committed to helping young students use technology responsibly and creatively, preparing them for citizenship in today’s world.

Hands-on and pen-to-paper academic work remain critical for student success. But we also use research and up-to-date training and professional development to inform our philosophy of integrating technology in our students’ learning.

Our Innovation Framework

At St. James, we focus on integrating technology into the classroom to support learning and foster creative and innovative learning opportunities. At each grade level, students develop age-appropriate, 21st-century digital literacy and technology skills in a safe and educational environment.

Our Innovation Framework allows for intentional, thoughtful, and structured use of technology in the classroom that maximizes its ability to create innovative learning experiences for students. Using our Innovation Framework has made curriculum design more fluid and more personalized to the St. James community.

Our framework takes into account the six areas we believe facilitate innovative learning opportunities:

  • Creativity
  • Engagement
  • Assessment/feedback
  • Collaboration
  • Differentiation
  • Critical thinking

All the while, our philosophy of integrating technology helps support these six areas throughout the learning experience. Through this framework, we move students from consumers of technology to creators and innovators.

Creativity

Students use
hands-on creativity combined with the power of modern technology to positively impact their learning.

Diagnostic

Teachers use technology to continuously diagnose &
provide personalized instruction to each student.

Resource

Technology allows students and teachers to conduct research almost anywhere on many topics, helping them acquire skills through content.

Citizenship

Partnering with Common Sense Media, students in kindergarten-5th grade take part in lessons on how to appropriately use technology.
