At St. James Episcopal Day School, we believe even our youngest learners can make a big impact — and this fall, our students have already shown just how big their hearts can be. Through hands-on outreach projects, meaningful conversations, and community-wide participation, our children are learning that kindness, empathy, and service are at the heart of what it means to Love, Learn, and Lead.
Spreading Joy with Totes de Joie 🎀
Earlier this year, our students participated in Totes de Joie, creating heartfelt cards for patients receiving cancer treatments. With crayons, markers, and plenty of care, our students filled each note with messages of hope and encouragement — small gestures that bring light and comfort to those facing difficult days.
Thanking Our Everyday Heroes 🚓🚒
Next came Burgers for Badges, a favorite annual event where students decorated lunch bags for our local police officers, firefighters, and first responders. These creative thank-you messages reminded our community heroes how much they are appreciated and valued for keeping us safe every day.
Serving Our Neighbors with Compassion 💛
Our 4th grade students also stepped up in a big way this fall, helping fill grocery bags for Community Connections- when the church gathers with all those who live among us to share breakfast. This hands-on act of service gave students the opportunity to learn about compassion, community, and the importance of caring for our neighbors in need.
Standing Strong with Pink Out Day 💗
And most recently, our campus was glowing bright pink for Pink Out Day — a special day dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients and raising awareness. Students learned about what breast cancer is, why research is so important, and how even small acts can make a big difference. Funds raised during the event will go to Woman’s Hospital and breast cancer research, helping doctors and scientists continue their work toward better treatments and cures.
During our Pink Out Morning Meeting gathering students were reminded:
“When you see all this pink, it’s not just a color — it’s a symbol of hope, love, and support for people who are being brave and for the helpers who take care of them.”
At St. James, community outreach isn’t just an event on the calendar — it’s a part of who we are. Whether it’s crafting a card, decorating a lunch bag, filling grocery bags, or donning pink to support a cause, our students are learning the power of compassion and the joy that comes from helping others.
Together, we’re building a generation of thoughtful, kind leaders who know that every act of service, big or small, makes a difference. 💚💙
