21st Century Technology

As you walk up the sidewalk to the front doors of our school, you see a traditional building with 60 years of history. On the inside you see a thriving, progressive education that is being achieved though the ubiquitous use of technology. Technology is the catalyst for the new kind of teaching and learning in the 21st century. Today’s youth are living in a digital world. The skills they will need are changing rapidly. Computer literacy, problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, and innovations are leading the way in schools of this millennium. At St. James Episcopal Day School we are leading the way in bringing the latest technology and teaching practices into our classrooms. With the most up-to-date technology, teachers are able to address the many learning styles of our students. All of the most modern technology acquired by St. James has been done with the continuous support of the school board and administration. We have installed interactive Promethean whiteboards along with the voting tools called Activotes into every classroom. Document reading projectors, digital cameras, Alphasmart keyboards, classroom desktop computers, and a computer lab are visible throughout the school. We also have a full operational broadcast studio that allows media rich projects to be shown to the entire school through a school wide cable system. This year we have added a Dell laptop one to one program for our third through fifth grade students. This initiative has drawn such excitement from the teachers, students and parents. Along with the hardware our school has fully implemented online tools for grading and office management. The school also has purchased subscriptions to some of the award winning educational websites such as Discovery Education, Accelerated Reader, and BrainPOP. Our newly updated website with its Parent Center is functioning as a password protected portal for all of the information needed to keep up with the exciting things going on at St. James.
